What did I do - well I pinned a quilt together ready for quilting - this has been sitting in the UFO pile for quite a while; so earlier in the week I got a bee in my bonnet and completed all the blocks (the stitcheries and stars were done!) and last night I put the layers together. We're expecting a heatwave here next week so the plan is to quilt it then. It's a Lynette Anderson Design called Christmas Fun.
I also worked on some secret stitiching for Cheryll's "Initial Heart Swap" - here's a peek -
and then I decided I didn't want to get the machine out as DD1 received the latest Downton Abbey Series on DVD for Christmas and she's dying to talk about it with someone so (sigh) I had to watch the fist 3 epidsodes. OMG (as DD1 would say) - I won't spoil it but can't wait to watch some more tonight.
So while watching I decided to do some hand sewing. I've had this for a while but haven't got around to starting it (mainly because I'd made up my mind to "needle turn" the applique and I've not done that before).
I bought it as a BOM so I didn't have to choose the fabrics (which for me is often the longest part of a project). I decided to do the smallest block first and then if I didn't get the hang of needle turn I could go back to the tried and tested vliosofix for the rest. Well I have to say he's not quite centred and a bit googly eyed but for a first go I'm more than happy. A Christmas Tree is on the list for tonight - I'll keep you posted (if I don't get too engrossed in Downton Abbey).
Don't forget to pop over to Cheryll's and check out what everyone else has done. I'm popping over later today as I need to take DD1 to work now.
Bye for now
Melanie

I like needleturn too, it's just one of those things that gets easier the more you do it. xx debbie
I think your first effort at needle turn is great...as is your Christmas Quilt.
I'll get lots of practice with this quilt :)
Thank you - I did "Scandinavian Christmas" a few years ago but this looks tiny in comparison. My first craft done for Christmas 2014 :)
Great job it is good trying something new.
Great job on the needle turn...one day I am going to beat it...LOL
Can I come over and watch too? Cute little ladybug.
You did a wonderful job on your needleturn Melanie. It is a gorgeous book. Love your Christmas quilt too. Enjoy Downton I loved it.
I'll leave the needleturn to you as I can't seem to get it right, you on the other hand did a great job. Lots going on at your place.
It's always been on my list of things to do.
Thank you - the next block I'm doing things aren't quite going to plan but it won't beat me!!
You sure can; I'll put the kettle on :)
Thank you - Downton is very exciting; only 2 episodes to go....
It is a busy place at the moment; it's a great way to beat the heat :)

Nice secret sewing and your needleturn looks great.
Wow, great accomplishments for the night.
Secret sewing was completed today. Lynette Anderson is a favourite (2 more on the go as we speak :) ).
Thanks for stopping by you had a productive night too ♥
Love your Christmas Fun. The ladybug is gorgeous. If the rest of the quilt is as cute it will be an awesome Christmas addition.
all pinned and ready for quilting - a good feeling (pinning is not my fav part). I'm a Downton Abbey Fan.

I thought if I started now it might be finished for Christmas this year!
I won't spoil Downton for you but as always it finishes with even more questions unanswered; I'll just have to be very, very patient.
Thanks for stopping by - if you get the chance do watch it; we're all (well except DH) big fans here.
I do enjoy secret sewing.
Thanks Kaye - you were too. It's good to set time aside to craft with friends everywhere.
You did too Jeanette with your very cute little birds. Same time next month?
The hearts are now finished and ready to post; just need to add some confectionery love to the parcel and off it goes.
Lynette Anderson is a firm favourite especially anything "Christmas" or with "Hugo" on.
Love your Lynette Anderson quilt! And your bug is cute! Am a Downton fan too!
Your Christmas Fun quilt is lovely and I love your little hum-bug! Wendy
You accomplished a lot! Beautiful job on Christmas fun and the rest are coming along nicely.
I like my "googly eyed" bug too; he's very unique. We've just read there will be a 6th series of Downton (phew)! Series 4 as always left some stray ends........
I've finished the quilting and binding - just need photo's! Thanks for visiting.
Thanks for visiting Ulla.
Some nights go like that; others definitely not so productive.......... Thanks for stopping by.
